Is The Goldman Sachs Stock Outperforming the Dow?

Valued at nearly $225.6 billion by market cap, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) operates as a leading global financial holding company. The New York-based capital markets giant provides a range of services for corporations, institutions, governments, and individuals. It operates through Global Banking & Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, and Platform Solutions segments.

Companies worth $200 billion or more are generally described as "mega-cap stocks." GS fits right into that category, with its market cap exceeding this threshold, reflecting its substantial size, influence, and dominance in the finance sector.

Goldman touched its all-time high of $753.33 on Aug. 28 and is currently trading 1.1% below that peak. GS stock prices have soared 23.2% over the past three months, notably outperforming the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s ($DOWI7.9% surge during the same time frame.

Goldman’s performance has remained impressive over the longer term as well. GS stock prices have surged 30.2% on a YTD basis and 48.1% over the past 52 weeks, outpacing the Dow’s 7.1% uptick in 2025 and 10.8% gains over the past year.

To confirm the uptrend, GS has traded consistently above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages since early May.

Goldman Sachs’ stock prices observed a marginal 90 bps uptick following the release of its impressive Q2 results on Jul. 16. The company’s non-interest revenues for the quarter increased 6.9% year-over-year to $11.5 billion. Meanwhile, driven by lower interest expenses, its net interest income soared 56% year-over-year to $3.1 billion. Overall, Goldman’s topline came in at $14.6 billion, up 14.5% year-over-year and 8.1% ahead of the Street expectations. Furthermore, the company’s EPS for the quarter increased by 26.6% year-over-year to $10.91, surpassing the consensus estimates by 15.7%.

Meanwhile, GS has marginally outpaced its peer, The Charles Schwab Corporation’s (SCHW29.5% surge in 2025, but slightly lagged behind SCHW’s 49.8% gains over the past year.

Among the 24 analysts covering the GS stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy.” As of writing, the stock is trading above its mean price target of $728.74.
